Every time there is a storm, there are several different companies knocking on my door! How do I know which ones are legit?
When a storm comes into town, you will be bombarded with storm chasers! Before you talk to anyone or let them look at your home, ask for ID, credentials, and find out where their office is located. If they do not have a local phone number, have an out of state license plate; steer clear! If they are out of state, chances are, they are a storm chaser.
How do you know when an asphalt shingle roof needs replacement? Are there clues to look for before telltale water stains appear on our plaster ceilings?
There are several clues to look for. The most obvious clue would be the age of your roof. If your roof is over 20 years old, there is a good chance it’s due for replacement. However, younger roofs can also fail. It is best to check your roof once a year or after any major wind or hail storm. What to look for:
- Numerous shingles lifting up, cracked or missing
- Curled edges on shingles
- Dark areas
- Water-staining in the attic.
How long does it take to install my new roof?
There are several variables that affect the timeline of the roof installation. Weather, additional roof layers, etc. all play specific parts in the roof installation. Once your project manager can fully assess your roof, he will be able to give you an idea of when and how long it will take for your roof to be installed.
How much does a new roof cost?
There are several factors that go into determining the cost of your roof. Quality, Professionalism, Brand, Type of Shingle, Grade of Shingle, size, shape, and slope of your roof.
Never choose a contractor based on cost alone. Although price is a factor, there are several other important factors to consider. Going with the cheapest roofer could end up costing you more money in the long run when you consider sub-par roofing repairs and damage. It is best to check out reviews, ask for referrals from previous customers, and check with manufacturers such as Owens Corning for their Platinum Preferred Contractors.
What is R-Value?
“Insulation is identified and labeled by R-value. “R” stands for resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power. Manufacturers of insulation products print the R-values of their products either on bags or on labels attached to plain bags. In most cases, R-values are also printed on the facings of batts and rolls. On unfaced insulation, the R-value is printed on the product or indicated by stripe coding.”
